Sulfur powder is one of the classics in the wine cellar. It is used for sulfiting wine and mash and helps keep oxidation and unwanted microorganisms in check, so that aroma and color are preserved.
The 10 g pack is designed for smaller batches and targeted use. When sulfiting, follow the recommended dosage exactly and work carefully, as sulfur compounds must be handled properly. See the package instructions for the dosage.
- Contents: 10 g sulfur powder
- Suitable for: sulfiting wine and mash
- Application: dose carefully, dosage as per package instructions
- Brand: Arauner Kitzinger
Manufacturer information:
- Active ingredient: potassium disulfite (E224), portioned in 10 x 1 g
- Dosage for sulfiting: 10 g/hl (10 g per 100 l)
- Airlock barrier liquid: plain water during fermentation; for storage, dissolve 1 g in 50 ml of water (large airlock: 2 g in 100 ml), without acid. This gives a potassium metabisulfite solution of about 2 %, i.e. about 1 % SO₂. Never let potassium metabisulfite come into contact with acid, not even in the same container: toxic gas is released.
- Further uses: sterilizing equipment, corks and bottles; oxidation protection for dried fruit and dried vegetables
