Sulfur powder based on potassium disulfite is one of the basic agents in the wine cellar. It protects wine and mead against oxidation and holds back unwanted microorganisms, so that the beverages stay stable and keep well.

This 1 kg bulk pack is intended for larger production volumes or many batches. Sulfur is dosed sparingly and precisely, so follow the details on the packaging. Caution, hazardous substance: it causes serious eye damage and develops toxic gases on contact with acid. Wear protective gloves and eye protection and work in a well-ventilated environment.

  • Contents: 1 kg sulfur powder (potassium disulfite)
  • Suitable for: wine and mead (vinegar batches are not sulphured)
  • Application: dose sparingly, according to the packaging instructions, with protective equipment
  • Brand: Arauner Kitzinger

Manufacturer information:

  • Potassium disulfite (E224), CAS no. 16731-55-8, EC no. 240-795-3
  • Strongly hygroscopic - use up an opened pack immediately
  • Airlock barrier liquid: plain water during fermentation; for storage, dissolve 1 g in 50 ml of water (large airlock: 2 g in 100 ml), without acid. This gives a potassium metabisulfite solution of about 2 %, i.e. about 1 % SO₂. Never let potassium metabisulfite come into contact with acid, not even in the same container: toxic gas is released.
  • Further uses: sterilization of equipment, corks and bottles
